Alcohol Related Deaths

Alcohol contributes to a lot of traffic accidents in the United States every year. These are very dangerous and entirely unnecessary. Driving under the influence greatly impairs your ability to drive safely. It is estimated that you are six times more likely to be in a traffic accident when you drive with a BAC of 0.08 than when you have no alcohol in your bloodstream.

Over the past 10 years, approximately 250,000 people have been killed due to alcohol related accidents. That is around 25,000 alcohol related deaths every year in the United States. Almost all of these 25,000 deaths per year could have been avoided by not drinking and driving.

These 25,000 deaths per year work out to an average 500 deaths every week, or 71 people killed every day. This means that every 20 minutes, one person dies in an alcohol related crash in the United States. It is estimated that approximately half of all Americans will be involved in an alcohol related accident at some point in their lives.

In 2005, there were 3,104 fatal crashes in Texas alone. Nearly half of these were alcohol related. Texas has a higher percentage of alcohol related crashes than the national average.

Driving while intoxicated is incredibly dangerous. If you choose to drink and drive, you could lose your life, injury or kill others, and can be charged with a DWI.
