Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

The negative effects of drunk driving are widely known in the United States. Hundreds of people die every year because of drunk driving, from young children to elderly people. Drunk drivers can crash into other cars, killing people, and they can also hit people who are on the street.

To fight drunk driving, a number of organizations have arisen. One such organization is Students against Destructive Decisions (SADD), which was founded as Students against Drunk Driving. Although SADD now focuses on a host of negative behaviors, drunk driving is still a major focus.

SADD is a nationwide, student-led movement. It function on a peer-to-peer led model, by which students working with SADD teach at schools, hold rallies, and spread information in general about drunk driving as well as other behaviors that are harmful to youth. SADD has a strong history, having been founded in 1981. It has worked with state and national agencies as well as private organizations. From its founding, SADD has had a strong, clear-cut policy against alcohol: no drunk driving, no underage drinking, and no drugs.

The point of SADD and similar organizations is to stop drunk driving as well as other irresponsible behaviors. Their work pays off incrementally and helps ensure that lives are saved.
