Ways to Prevent Drinking and Driving

Drinking and driving can lead to terrible consequences. If you ‘re really lucky, you get home safely, but this is not necessarily the case. Many drunk drivers end up with a DWI, or get in a crash. When anyone is involved in a crash, serious injury and even death can occur.

Some people are willing to take the risk of death or serious injury. Not every drunk driver ends up dead. However, most drunk drivers do not stop to consider that their lives are not the only ones at stake. Often, when a drunk driver collides with another car, it is the other person or people who end up seriously injured or dead.

Drunk drivers often leave against the advice of others as well. One way to discourage drinking and driving is to make it more difficult for the person to drive. This can be accomplished in several different ways, but the best way is always the one that works well for you.

Taking and hiding the person ‘s keys often works well as they will not be able to drive without them. This works better for some people than others.

Another idea is to offer the person a place to sleep off the drunken state. This approach works on some occasions, but often the person will not accept it.

You may also want to try to have some friends help you talk the person down from driving drunk. More people often make this easier.
