Mother charged with felony DWI

A 39 year-old mother from New York is facing felony DWI charges after she was found driving drunk with her 2 year-old daughter in the car. The woman was pulled over early last week with a blood alcohol level of 0.28, more than three times over the legal limit.

She was pulled over after officers noticed her driving 20 mph under the speed limit, swerving between lanes several times, and idling at a stop light for two cycles. She failed several field sobriety tests before law enforcement administered a breath test. Driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 16 years-old has become a federal offense, called Leandra’s Law, after an 11 year-old girl was killed in a car accident when her friend’s intoxicated mother drove them to a sleep over.
